“Mikrorajoni” is the debut album of V.S.K.B. (Valsts specializētais konstruktoru birojs) – a Latvian minimal synth and post-punk formation named after the Soviet block where two of its originator members – Stropu Jurka and Arkls – grew up in. Formed in 2008 on the ruins of then disbanded industrial project Strops, V.S.K.B. started out as a trio with ex-Barodarho member Zyrnys, blending harmonic soviet analog synthesizer performance with minimal drum machine rhythms and post-industrial sound aesthetics, yet also keeping the strong socially poetic lyrical presence reminiscent of Strops. They were to record numerous songs and play live shows with varying line-ups, before approaching the period of recording this album as a duo consisting of Stropu Jurka and Erlends Paičs. “Mikrorajoni” as the title states is themed as a musical analysis of the impact of living in microdistricts on its human habitat – socially and emotionally
