about

...which is probably the first Latvian band to play EBM.
U.S.O.C.A. was formed by Jānis Sils as a follow-up to the influential synth-punk band BEDRE, which existed from 1987-1990 (formally 'til '92). While active, they released 4 albums, played 6 gigs (some of them ended up as fights with an unsatisfied audience), established a state of theirs called "Aleponija" with it's own statutes and senators, opposing both the Soviet system and some aspects of the National Awakening movement, as well as had publications explaining their ideas and philosophy in local magazines who did articles about the band.
BEDRE slowly disbanded after J. Sils moved to Milwaukee/ Chicago, USA, where utilizing the minimal setup of equipment he had, continued to record music under the moniker U.S.O.C.A. (Urinating Statue of an Castrated Angel). Mixing his influences of the time (Belgian EBM scene, the nearby Wax Trax records, etc.) with ironic and often sarcastic themes relevant to BEDRE, their first album "Head Cut" saw daylight in 1991, followed by "Emancipator" in 1994.
